Alisa Bohon began teaching piano at the age of 15 and has been dedicated to music education ever since. She finds deep fulfillment in guiding students through the joys and challenges of musical learning, working with pianists from pre kindergarten through high school and beyond. Because music education has long been shown to support coordination, language development, and creativity, Alisa finds special meaning in teaching piano. She is committed to helping each student, regardless of ability, develop the skills to perform with both musicality and confidence. For students who later choose to major or minor in music, her teaching provides a strong foundation to pursue those goals successfully.

Whether a student is a young beginner or an advanced pianist, learning a new piece is an exciting and multifaceted process involving harmony, structure, and musical expression. Alisa encourages students to explore these dimensions and take ownership of transforming a piece into a true work of art. Reaching the point where a student feels proud to share their music with friends and family is deeply rewarding for both the student and the teacher.

As a young piano student herself, Alisa especially loved sight reading as a way to explore the sounds, styles, and historical periods of composers. She eagerly read through books of music, with a particular affinity for J. S. Bach and Brahms, treating each new piano book with care and reverence. Alisa studied piano from age eight through high school, later earning a degree in piano performance from East Carolina University and completing her studies at Old Dominion University. During her high school years, she also studied organ.

Alisa has extensive experience adjudicating music events and competitions. She traveled to Hong Kong on three separate four week tours to serve as an adjudicator for the Hong Kong Music Festivals.
