Alisa Bohon started teaching piano lessons at age 15 and has never looked back. She embraces the joys and challenges of guiding students in their musical learning from pre-kindergarten through high school and beyond. Because music education has proven over time to be a major contributor to coordination, language skills, and creativity, it gives the teaching of piano even more meaning. Alisa strives to teach each student, whatever their ability, to perform musically and meaningfully. Later, in their high school years, if they desire to major or minor in music, they have learned and gained the foundation and skills to pursue this path.

Whether a student is a young beginner or more experienced, a new piece is an exciting assignment to tackle in so many ways:  harmonically, structurally, and musically.  It is up to the student to find ways to turn this new piece into a work of art. It is satisfying to both student and teacher to end with a work they are happy to share with friends and family.

As a child learning piano, Alisa especially loved sight-reading as a way of exploring the sounds and styles of composers and their periods.   She would read through books of music with a special affinity for J. S. Bach and Brahms.  A new piano book was treated with extra care and reverence.  Alisa studied piano from age 8 through high school and then pursued a degree in piano performance at East Carolina University and finished at Old Dominion University.  During her high school years, she also studied organ.

Alisa has spent a great deal of time adjudicating events and competitions.  She traveled to Hong Kong on three separate 4-week tours to participate in adjudicating in the Hong Kong Music Festivals.

Alisa maintains a private piano studio in York County, Virginia and also at her home in Williamsburg, Virginia.
